And on a not-totally unrelated aside, what sort of lobbying would we
have to do to even get free bridging connectivity between Victoria and

Telstra Selects Alcatel for the Bass Strait 2 Undersea Cable in
Australia
The optical submarine cable will enhance network capacity and service
reliability between Tasmania and Victoria
Paris, February 12, 2003 - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA), the
world leader in optical networking, and Telstra, the leading telecom
service provider in Australia, announced today the signature of a
multi-million dollar contract to build a second Bass Strait crossing
ensuring enhanced services to Tasmania. Leveraging Alcatel's state of
the art cableship fleet, highly reliable cable technology and project
management expertise, the new Bass Strait 2 link will enable Telstra to
meet Tasmania's growing demand for advanced telecommunications services
while enhancing the overall capacity and service reliability of the
current infrastructure. When completed, Bass Strait 2 will take over
from the digital radio links as the primary back-up technology for the
first Bass Strait cable, which was also deployed by Alcatel in 1995.
