No you don't.

In a vague way... The router is running in IBSS mode (unmanaged), and it's
a router, while most APs are bridges. However, it works pefectly well for a
small network. In my case, because the system is a wireless router, I'm
also able to setup filtering to limit access from the wireless segment - in
effect a firewall, without adding any extra hardware.
