correct me if I am wrong, but didn't we just have an announcement on the 
Melbwireless list that melbourne.wireless.org.au had just been formed 
with the idea that the wireless.org.au domain would therefore be a more 
general namespace?  if not, I for one think it is a Good Idea TM.

while wanting to avoid a slanging match (groan... who pays for it, etc.) 
I cannot see that there is a problem with one IP address for 
wireless.org.au and others for melb.wireless.org.au, 
syd.wireless.org.au, or whatever, and that this could all work out 
beautifully.

Ofcourse, I may have missed the point entirely, because there is posibly 
2 DNS issues here.  One is the wireless presence on the internet (our 
respective public faces and webspace) and the more intimate public 
wireless network that we are building.  Mind you, seeings as how we have 
a suggestion of <name>.<postcode>.<wireless.base.address> (or possibly 
<name>.<postcode>.<city>.<wireless.base.address> - I don't care, but 
that might be redundant or we can even get multiple maps on DNS - 
something I will discuss off list if anyone is interested - we have some 
thoughts on this and I would welcome input...) we might be able to have 
the two things co-exist with little problems.

Just think about that for a minute.  I certainly intend to place a 
webserver and ftp server on the wireless side of my firewall for the 
wireless communitee to access.  can anyone see a problem with the 
wireless network being connected to the internet as a information source 
(being a content provider as opposed to being an internet service provider)?

it adds a look and feel that is relatively seemless on the surface, 
while underneath allowing for automagic DNS provision over disperate 
namespaces and IP domains.  in some respects, this eases the requirement 
of independant public name space useage if set up properly (eg. I can 
use 10.0.0.1 in melbourne because there is a NAT between me and the 
person in Gelong using 10.0.0.1...)  (lets get into a debate about why 
NAT is bad later...  personally I still think IPv6 is the way to g.... 
Ouch! who threw that!)
