just had an interesting idea.
PC inside the house running X10. power going to roof top box, data
comms via X10 (simple stuff, control traffic and some local bandwidth).
then have an active relay inna box. Have seen this done in other
guises by the guy in this

(demo at AJUG stand recently)
This is some manner of DSP running a hard java interpreter, dallas
one-wire, ethernet, rs232, X10 and wireless. all robust, low power
consumption, etc.
