Help!

After getting everything working on my linux (mandrake 8.2) laptop with
regard to all things wireless it seems as though I've pressed one key too
many and everything has

now gone to hell.

I had the laptop working fine. It was in a docking station with 3 wireless
cards(3 different channels) plus a 3com wired nic all working happily.
This box then served out IP addresses to the wireless network via dhcp and
provided net access via an authenticating squid proxy.

Now, it seems like *something* has really stuffed the network config. Yet,
after much stuffing around (~2 weeks) I am still unable to find the
problem.
So I take the docking station away and just try and get a single wireless
card going.

I have hit a brickwall and can't seem to proceed. Paul - no im not going to
install FreeBSD! ;)

The problem is as below. Hopefully someone will go "you just need to add
... blah to make it work" i'll slap my forehead and say "hey thats all it
was!"

Anyway, I had previously installed the binary Enterasys/Roamabout drivers
for the Enterasys PCMCIA wireless cards.
Upon startup I got the correct module that was loading :

(please disregard some of the times in the logs, seems like the bios
battery/internal clock isn't what it used to be!)

Sep 25 05:50:30 koops pcmcia: Starting PCMCIA services:

Sep 25 05:50:35 koops cardmgr[899]: executing: './network start eth0'

The problem is that now it comes up as :

Oct 16 22:56:04 koops pcmcia: Starting PCMCIA services:
Oct 16 22:56:07 koops pcmcia: cardmgr.
Oct 16 22:56:07 koops cardmgr[914]: starting, version is 3.1.31
Oct 16 22:56:07 koops rc: Starting pcmcia: succeeded
Oct 16 22:56:08 koops cardmgr[914]: socket 0: 3Com 589 Ethernet
(I do realise that it says the card is in a different socket! I was trying
something different and swapped them all around)
Oct 16 22:56:08 koops portmap: portmap startup succeeded
Oct 16 22:56:09 koops cardmgr[914]: executing: './network start eth0'

further down the log it also starts using the wvlan_cs module.

In the file /etc/pcmcia/config.opts there is pretty much only the line :

module "roamabout_cs" opts "network_name=home station_name=Koops\ Laptop
create_ibss=Y "

The thing is that cardmgr doesn't echo anything about the wireless card, as
seen above.

But the pcmcia stab file is updated with the following.

[root at koops pcmcia]# more /var/lib/pcmcia/stab
Socket 0: 3Com 589 Ethernet
0 network 3c589_cs 0 eth0
Socket 1: Intersil PRISM2 11 Mbps Wireless Adapter
1 network wvlan_cs 0 eth1

I swapped the cards around and confirmed that its not just old info.

Ideas? Suggestions?

help!

Lucas
