latency/jitter and the effects of no QoS are the biggest reasons for
VOIP being unusable/inconsistant - todays broadband is well and truly
capable of handling toll quality (whatever that is) voice calls (at
least within australia).
I did a test calling myself from a Firefly phone (via freshtel) to my
own mobile and the latency was undetectable, FAR less than
mobile->mobile (if you've ever called yourself on a mobile), which
surprised and impressed me.
I'm working on transparent linux based QoS solutions at the moment
actually.
