"For most of us, a cable stripper is required to avoid nicking the center
connector. Actually a coring tool is best for larger cable such as LMR400
and they cost about $100.

Depending on whethere the connected is a center crimp or a center solder
you will need either a soldering iron or a crimping tool with the right
die. Improvisation in tools will lead to heartache. A passable crimping
tool with an assortment of dies is about $100. A passable soldering iron
about $20. Really good tools are much more expensive.

It would be nice to be able to test this at the target frequency but the
poor mans testing system is two systems. Substitute the part in the working
system and make sure it 1) works and 2) has the same signal strength on
what ever indicator you can put together.

You obviously need to make a few cables after which you can do the sensible
thing and go back to ordering cables to spec.

The best prices come from places which have minimum orders. Mine cost me
less that $20."
