Time is always an issue, I know that one myself, but I am prepared to
second your nomination (as a paid up member) for President and let
the members decide.

I did look at mesh networking during a feasibility study, and it is
interesting, but having spent my life as the "lone geek", I am not
sure how good a mesh we'll get. This is not to say don't try, but to
bring more attention to the need to broaden the appeal of Melbourne
Wireless, to increase the potential density of the mesh. I certainly
agree that mesh networks need to be augmented by point to point
links, whether they be wireless or even VPNs for remote areas.

Providing services on the wireless mesh should be straightforward,
and BBS software such as Synchronet (http://www.synchro.net) might be
useful for these community BBSs. Internet access could be more
problematic, with questions such as routing (who gets routed to what
internet connection?) and the availability of suitable gateways to
the Internet (many ISPs disallow sharing beyond your property
boundaries - I have a connection which is underutilised, but I am not
allowed to share it :( ).
