John,
I'm not sure that this will work.  From what I have seen these type of AP's
actually only require the hardware provided by the cards.  Upon bootup the
AP actually flashes another firmware into the orinoco cards RAM, which is
discarded once the card is removed or the AP is powered down.

I discovered this for myself when I flashed some orinoco's with a version of
the Karlnet firmware only to find that once they were in the AP and powered
up they were reporting a completely different firmware on the cards.  Once
removed and checked in a PC they showed the Karlnet firmware again.
