VideoLan www.videolan.org can also pump the DVB MPEG2 transport streams
over a network I believe and has clients for a huge number of
platforms.
A (Mac-only) product from El Gato, recently reviewed in the Green
Guide, is an external box with integrated DVD-T tuner and a firewire
port, allowing you to watch Digital TV on your Mac Desktop or
PowerBook. BTW DVB works well mobile for you in-car multimedia
enthusiasts. ( Mac software to support the Hauppage internal PCI cards
is available from John Dalgliesh at http://www.defyne.org/dvb/ )
The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) at Federation Square
streams around 30 channels of video to the plasmas around the complex
as MPEG2 at around 8 Mbit/sec over a Gigabit Ethernet backbone.
