FW: [MLB-WIRELESS] Lucent WaveLan 802.11 Cards can they be upgraded?

Sorry to say that this is wrong information....
The Lucent Wavelan Bronze and the original Wavelan "White" cards are indeed
not 802.11b, however they have an IEEE 802.11 mode - the mode driver for
which was actually already on their original driver CDs!
I have two of each in a 802.11b WLAN environment of Avaya and Roamabout
cards with an SVEC and a Netgear AP - and they work like a charm. Just at
2mbps as was already mentioned (no way to upgrade them to 11Mbps nor
encryption!).
It is also possible that you have encryption turned on somewhere in your
WLAN - and that will of course exclude the cards altogether.
What may be necessary is to update the firmware with the 802.11 driver (in
fact all of the later Lucent-silver-gold/Orinoco/Avaya firmware upgrades
have provision for the old Wavelan cards (the documentation even mentions
them).
So go ahead, ensure there is no encryption and/or update the firmware and
all will be well!
Cheers,
Joe
(happy 2Mbps WLAN user)

If they are Wavelan Bronze cards then they are only "802.11" not "802.11b".
The two are incompatible with eachother.
802.11 is 2Mbit Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS), 802.11b is 11Mbit
Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS). They work completely differently.
