[MLB-WIRELESS] new node HRW

Hi Lee,
I certainly don't wish to dampen your enthusiasm, but I'd say a direct
link from HRW to FOB would be nigh on impossible unless you had a 50
metre tower at HRW. If I were you I'd get into contact with the owners
of Nodes GMI, ACD and GXT. They have a nice little cluster going in
Narre Warren, you'd have a much better Line Of Sight to them.
I see you have registered with www.nodedb.com <http://www.nodedb.com/> .
Whilst NodeDB doesn't have all the Melbourne Wireless nodes in it's
database, it does have a nice feature for creating "Elevation Maps".
There are some drop-down menus just below the Link map on every node
page. From your node page (or any other node page) you can use the
menus to select another node to see the Elevation Profile between you
and them. If you select Node FOB you'll see that the Line Of Sight from
HRW doesn't look good. But you LOS to Nodes GMI, ACD and GXT looks
pretty good. You'll still need a dish to connect to those nodes though
- probably a 25dBi grid parabola. A dlink 900ap+ with just an omni
attached probably won't get you very far - but it will allow you to act
as a beacon to others in your area.
If you're really keen, have a bit of a play with the Elevation Map
feature on NodeDB - if you explore it you may find decent Lines-Of-Sight
to active nodes you never thought were possible. Your node might be in
a great position to act as a link from the GMI cluster to other clusters
- you'll never know unless you explore and test your options.
Cheers,
Dan

Hi all
we are looking at placing a node on a 2 story factory in Hallam, Just
close to the hallam pub
for starters will have a dlink 900ap+ (no comments ryan) and a 8dbi
omni.
maybe hoping to connect to FOB to get us into the real world.
if we have to put up another ap and dish pointed to Clayton then so be
it.
just asking for comments and to see if ther may be better connectivity
options?
cheers Lee node GXQ
