Sounds like you're getting confused with firewalling. There are firewall
applications called things like Shorewall and Smoothwall. However, what you
are after are things that will handle routing protocols like OSPF.

Your choice there is quite limited, there used to be a freely available
version of GateD that handled OSPF, BGP, etc, but that's now a closed source
product of the GateD Consortium. However, all hope is not lost, because there
is now a GPL based routing package called Zebra. There website is at:

	http://www.zebra.org/

It's still in beta (current version 0.93a) and includes an interface that will
be rather familiar to anyone who's played with a Cisco router. :-)

Note that whilst the website says that the latest version is 0.93a (July
2002), there is a 0.93b on the FTP site (October 2002). A little strange, but
the website does look a bit dated in places (for instance, it lists Linux
support as 2.0 and 2.2 and was written in January 2001).

Works quite nicely, though I've only ever had the chance to test it with
itself on Linux (Mandrake 9.0), so no idea how nicely it interoperates with
vendors kit like Cisco. Should be OK if everyone is playing strictly by the
RFC's (I guess that rules out MS :-) ).

good luck!
Chris
