Ah,
Well, even though it's MPG1 it's already considerably compressed at
1.4Mbit/sec. I managed to get it down to 500Kbit/sec with a 44MB total file
size with the same aspect ratio and still quite clear considering it's a
recompression of a compressed file. The only reason MPEG4/DIVX gets ~10x
compression is that usually the original DVD MPEG2 bitrate is closer to
7-9MBit depending on the film, you throw away 1/3 of the picture due to
letterboxing as so can crop what would be wasted pixels (the black ones).
You can then get an MPEG4 bitrate with a good looking image at 800-900Kbit.
If anyone is interested in a smaller galaxy.avi file in MPEG4 format, then I
can upload it to MW today/tonight. I would get a better picture at the same
bit rate if I could get my mitts on the original....
