I have a similar setup at home. I have a Linksys wireless broadband
router, which is my internet gateway and AP; it also serves as my DHCP
server. I have another access point, which is a Dlink 900+ configured in
client mode, and this is connected using a cross over cat5 to my
Playstation2. Client mode AP is configured with static IP of the same IP
pool as the Gateway. The reason for setting the client mode AP to static
IP is, so that I know the IP at all times and therefore easy to connect
to and configure when needed.
 
The PS2 eth card is set to use DHCP.
 
I think if you are using the same brand of AP things mighty be easier.
Because I am using 2 different brand of AP I found that I had to change
the basic rates on both AP from 1 - 2 Mb to 1-2-5-11Mb for my PS2 to be
able to get IP address assigned.

Good Day gents.
 
I have an ap connected to my linux box via a x over cable to a dedicated
eth card. I plan to connect this ap in client mode to an ap 1km away
which is in ap mode.
 
Now ive learned when in ap mode, the ip address of the ap doesnt really
matter. Is that the same with an ap in client mode ?
 
Now for example is the ap in ap mode is .1 should my ap in client mode
and eth card have sequential ip address' like .4 and .5 ??
 
Anyone done this sort of setup. Im assuming routing wouldnt be hard for
each side.
