VPN resources are not unlimited, neither is the radio airspace in the 2.4GHz
ISM band, especially with a campus-wide wireless network kicking around!
Nor is router CPU power.

The security guys will have their workload and concerns increased
considerably as their job will now apply to more 'foreign' clients as well.
The only concievable method would be to set up an AP/wireless gateway box
with a seperate interface or VC on an external router and treat it just like
an Internet subnet. Unfortunately no authoraties exist to follow up a
security breach related to a community wireless network such as us right
now.
It may be better (and easier) to contact an organisation such as AARNet....
