Tonight I verified that the Ricoh R5C476 II card (that is the replacement
for the NOKIA card on the TIB) works under Linux. Even cooler was the card
beeped via the onboard speaker when it was activated :-)
I was able to ping to and fro from my laptop to the linux box.
For me this is good news in that i am now 100% confident in supplying this
card to members.
The website states it runs under 95, 98, ME, 2000 an others and now we can
add Linux to this.

Please note that LINUX and ME are the only two os's i have verified the card
with but i think this is more than enough to put a smile on many faces.
Details of test environment
Debian Linux woody unstable
Kernel 2.4.18
pci card driver - yenta_socket
wireless card driver - orinoco_cs
use modconf under Debian to add these modules to the kernel
At Fridays meeting, someone pointed out the manufacturer also supplies a pci
card with two pcmcia slots which would be perfect for an AP situation. I
hope to be able to add the price for these cards (if i can get them) to the
TIB on Monday - stay tuned.
For those who still havent heard the NOKIA card deal has fallen through,
please visit the TIB then Pauls website for more details and images.
If all goes well, these cards will be available for pickup at the next
meeting.

For those of you who are wondering, it appears that the amtron site
_had_ linux info, but removed it (moderately concerning).
Thankfully, google still has a cached copy:

This is now not an issue!
