Apparently a lot of the PCI adaptors requre the PCI bus to be PCI 2.2
compliant. This standard is fairly new, and isn't supported on older
motherboards, particularly ones that also have ISA slots. If you're going to
put the cards into something like a pentium-class machine, to save a lot of
hair pulling, it's probably better to get an ISA adaptor.
