[MLB-WIRELESS] Meeting Structure? #%(^&!!

Hi All,

As I'm not a true melbourne wirelesser, but a ring in from geelong, thought I'd throw my 2.2 cents into the discussion.

While it's nice to have a formal structure and have a set meeting agenda, I get the feeling that an informal structure seems to be the model that is prefered. While their are benifits to both models, why force paperwork and other overheads onto one's self if we don't really need it.

Sure it would be good to have a set topic each month (hopefully we geelongites MAY even do one on converting APs if we haven't bolted all our APs up masts by then), and have a general group discussion on whatever issues of the time.

If you do feel the need to contribute in some way, bring along a slab of snags or something else that we could munch on.. As we tend to bury our heads in the fun stuff, and forget that we need to eat...

Hi All

I am not sure that this has been said before,
 BUT here goes.....


Besides the $60 Parking ticket from the last meeting in Hawthorn, and the
free BBQ sausages from the Geelong guys (thanks, sort of compensated;-) I am
not sure that the meetings are all they could be.

The video of the antenna mods on the bigscreen were of value to some I am
sure and did bring some structure to the night.

I did meet some new faces but being basicly reserved probably didnt talk to
a lot of people I probably should have.

What I am trying to say here is..
Considering the volume of attendees is growing fast..

 should we have a basic meeting structure in place where we login (on paper
even!) at the door with our (node&)Name and pay the fee to cover the hall
first.

Then should we have a set time we all sit down and someone does a bit of a
talk on the general wireless.org.au group objectives and such for five min.

This time could introduce some of the people that have kicked this whole
thing off from the start and might include Nick, Steve, Tyson, Ryan, and
whoever else is responsible for this rabble. Sorry but I was not in from the
start and am not sure who was but you know who you are;-)
Consider to vote a COMMITEE!!??
Maybe then some questions and tech talk and then playtime.

This would get newcommers a bit more comfortable with the whole experience.

I also think it is time to setup some sort of joining based on the NodeName
where we pay an annual nominal fee ($10 / 20??) to be part of the
"MelbWireless" 'group' 'club' 'organisation' or whatever?

WwWho is paying for the website and hosting etc?? Not to mention all the
background admin and programing done by someone obviously for benefit of us
all.

Should not all the "members" contribute through the fee to the "group"
resources?

Hell, I'm the one that usually complains about the pain of paperwork and
procedure BUT shouldn't we do something soon before it all starts to become
unmanageable?

I get the feeling that the guys that started it all dont want to push these
issues because they may be looked upon as ????

But I'm just one of the rabble that throws the odd handgrenade into the fray
so I dont mind what you think.
