Untie wireless, minister urges
Simon Hayes
JULY 16, 2002
THE South Australian government has called on federal parliament to lift
restrictions on wireless broadband licensing in an effort to increase the
uptake of fast internet.
The SA submission to the House of Representatives Standing Committee on
Communications inquiry into wireless broadband urges Canberra to relax
restrictions to encourage more start-ups to get involved in offering
services.
While 802.11 wireless local area networks do not require licences when used
within homes or businesses or for non-commercial purposes, anyone wanting to
provide commercial services by wireless must be licenced.
