Hello syd-wireless,
Community groups in general lately are copping a little bit of flak
from companies such as IDS in Adelaide among others over us acting
like cowboys, so I thought I'd do a little proactive rules and regs of
RF posting... We wish to comply to laws, and those that suggest
otherwise are grossly misrepresenting us, either intentionally or
unintentionally and in reality isn't what's happening for the majority
of people using the spectrum as it was originally intended... For
community mesh use...
It's fact that among our ranks we bolster many professionals in this
field, this includes radio technicians with many years of experience...
EIRP is rated as being the complete system, from the output of the
radio and any amps minus and losses and the gain of the antenna...
generally you don't need an antenna, and 9 times out of 10 if your
unsure of what your doing you could well be going over the legal limit
without even knowing it... As the saying goes if in doubt ask...
***PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE*** make sure your using the spectrum legally,
this means, channels 1 to 9 are allowed 4W or 36dBm EIRP and channels
10 to 13 are ***ONLY*** allowed 200mW or 23dBm EIRP.
Also it is only legal in Australia to transmit on channels 1 to 13, so
even if you can set your device to channel 14, please don't for the
sake of the community, and your own legal standing...
Below is the technical explanation with links to the ACA website with
the current regulations of use with class based licenses...

channel 1 = 2411Mhz centre freq.
channel 2 = 2416Mhz centre freq.
channel 3 = 2421Mhz centre freq.
channel 4 = 2426Mhz centre freq.
channel 5 = 2431Mhz centre freq.
channel 6 = 2436Mhz centre freq.
channel 7 = 2441Mhz centre freq.
channel 8 = 2446Mhz centre freq.
channel 9 = 2451Mhz centre freq.
channel 10 = 2456Mhz centre freq.
channel 11 = 2461Mhz centre freq.
channel 12 = 2466Mhz centre freq.
channel 13 = 2471Mhz centre freq.
channel 14 = 2484Mhz centre freq.
each channel needs 11Mhz either side of centre freq.
This means channel 10 and every subsequent channel falls into the 2463
to 2483Mhz range and is only allowed a maximum of 200mW or 23dBm EIRP...
