CeBIT Brings Overseas IT Co’s To Sydney

CeBIT Australia, with more than 300 companies from Australia and around the world exhibiting, is poised to become the premier event in Australia’s important Information and Communications Technology industry.

The inaugural CeBIT Australia trade show, a sister event of CeBIT Hannover, comes to Sydney’s Exhibition Centre at Darling Harbour from 28 -30 May. NSW Premier Bob Carr will open the event.

CeBIT Australia will focus on e-business, security, information storage, computers, venture capital finance, peripherals, telecommunications, software, Internet solutions and IT services.

Countries exhibiting at the trade show include the USA, India, Japan, Germany, Taiwan, United Kingdom, China, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, and Slovenia.

“CeBIT Australia is bringing technology to Australia that business visitors would otherwise have to travel overseas to see,” Jackie Taranto, Managing Director of Hannover Fairs Australia, said today.

Consistent with CeBIT’s association with leading-edge technology, the exhibition this year will feature a real-time Online Scheduling Service, allowing pre-registered visitors to make appointments with exhibitors during the event. Once an appointment is made, the exhibitor receives an email confirming the appointment and the visitor receives an SMS reminder a day before the appointment.

“The focus is on business solutions, based on the increasingly important role that ICT plays in driving business performance, innovative business solutions that can boost company profitability, and give them that vital competitive edge,” says Jackie Taranto, Managing Director of CeBIT Australia.   

Exhibitor support for CeBIT is strong and diverse.  Exhibitors range from small Australian startup software companies looking for venture capital funding to large international brands like Hewlett Packard.  “We're participating in CeBIT Australia because we believe the Australian event will deliver the excellent results we have come to expect from other CeBIT events worldwide“, said John Moran, Marketing Manager, Telecom, Media & Entertainment, Hewlett Packard. 

“HP will use CeBIT Australia to present innovative and world-first solutions for digital media and entertainment, mobility, and its more traditional infrastructure and software offerings”.  

CeBIT Australia also has the full support of government and industry.  Apart from Premier Bob Carr opening the event at the Exhibition Centre on the first morning, Government House will play host to the pre-event function on Monday evening, attended by a range of visiting international ICT delegates and local industry senior executives.  The New South Wales Department of State and Regional Development will bring companies from its Australian Technology Showcase to its stand at CeBIT Australia.

The Australian Industry Association (AIIA), the principal lobby group in the ICT sector, is host organisation and will include its prestigious Software Showcase, featuring innovative business solutions from 150 of Australian best startup software companies, in the event.  "We expect CeBIT Australia to quickly become the event for our industry in this region. It will put Australia on the map as a large and sophisticated ICT market, and as a developer of innovative Information and Communications Technology", said Rob Durie, AIIA Executive Director.

The strong international presence is further evidence of the sophistication and attraction of the Australian ICT market on a global stage.  Australian Bureau of Statistics reveal that the Australian ICT industry has an annual growth rate near 12% over the last five years - more than 2.5 times the Australian economy average, and is currently the second largest ICT market in Asia Pacific, and the ninth largest ICT market in the world.  CeBIT’s organisers recognised this too when they chose Australia to be the home of CeBIT in the Asia Pacific region.

CeBIT Australia comes from a rich heritage.  Its parent show, CeBIT Hannover, has been growing steadily for 17 years, and today holds the unchallenged position as the world’s largest and most successful ICT trade show, with approximately 8,000 exhibitors and 800,000 visitors.  CeBIT is growing internationally too, with CeBIT worldwide events now in Sydney, Shanghai and Istanbul.  From next year, New York joins the family, with CeBIT America debuting in June 2003.
