I'd like to point people at: sdl (and python)


Sdl is a multiplatform 'game' (=graphics & sound) library in
C. Sdl is unix (linux, irix, tru64 etc), windows, mac.

Python is an amazingly simple language (like perl only
readable) that is, again, multiplatform.

pysdl combines the two. I quote:
  "The library is highly portable, with users running on
  Windows (directx), NT4, MacOS, OSX, BeOS, FreeBSD, IRIX, and
  Linux."



Just to show you how amazingly simple this stuff is to use,
you can see an sdl python 'punch the stupid monkey' example at:
   http://pygame.seul.org/docs/tut/ChimpLineByLine.html

Now thats easy, huh?

But you could also use C if you really hate yourself :)
